Growing in Self-Control Together
đź“– “He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.”
—Proverbs 16:32 (NKJV)
Self-control is an important part of a peaceful and healthy family. God’s Word teaches that true strength is shown not through anger or harshness, but through wisdom, patience, and the ability to control one’s responses.
In family life, emotions can sometimes rise quickly. Stress, frustration, misunderstandings, or tiredness may lead to impatient words or reactions. But God calls families to respond with self-control instead of allowing emotions to take over.
Being “slow to anger” means taking time to pause, think, pray, and respond wisely. Self-control helps family members speak more gently, listen more carefully, and handle difficulties with greater peace and understanding.
Parents can model self-control by responding calmly during stressful moments and showing wisdom in their words and actions. Children learn self-control by watching these examples and practicing patience and obedience in daily life.
Self-control also strengthens relationships within the home. When family members choose restraint instead of reacting harshly, trust and peace grow stronger.
Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus gives families strength to grow in patience, wisdom, and self-control together. He helps each person respond in ways that honor Him and care well for others.
Knowing Christ as a family means allowing His Spirit to guide your responses, attitudes, and decisions. As self-control grows, the home becomes a place filled with peace, wisdom, and grace.
Prayer:
Jesus, help our family grow in self-control, patience, and wisdom. Teach us to respond with calm and grace rather than anger or harshness. Strengthen us through Your Spirit so that our home reflects Your peace and love each day. Amen.
